Sophie Ecclestone becomes England's leading wicket-taker in international cricket
Ecclestone achieves milestone by dismissing all-rounder Deepti on opening day of one-off Test against India
LONDON: Left-arm spinner Sophie Ecclestone on Friday added another feather to her cap as she became England's leading wicket-taker in international women's cricket.
The 27-year-old achieved the milestone on the opening day of their one-off Test against India, underway here at Lord's, by picking up three wickets for 68 runs in her 21.5 overs.
Ecclestone reached the summit when she got India's middle-order batter Deepti Sharma (57) caught at deep mid-wicket for her 41st wicket in the longest format, which took her overall tally of scalps in international cricket to 336 wickets, surpassing the long-standing record of Katherine Sciver-Brunt, who had 335 in 267 matches.
The left-arm spinner, featuring in her 207th international match for England, went on to pick two more wickets as she dismissed Sayali Satghare and Kranti Gaud, further bolstering her tally in international women's cricket to 338, three ahead of Katherine.

Ecclestone's record-breaking performance was backed by Mady Villiers, Issy Wong and Lauren Filler, who took two wickets, while Lauren Bell chipped in with one, to help the home side bowl out India for 285 in 74.5 overs.
Left-handed opener Smriti Mandhana remained the top-scorer for India with an anchoring 83 off 108 deliveries, comprising 11 fours and a six, followed by captain Harmanpreet Kaur and all-rounder Deepti Sharma, who made 58 and 57, respectively.
