MIAMI: England have been dealt a major injury concern ahead of Saturday's FIFA World Cup quarter-final against Norway, with defender Marc Guehi facing a race against time to prove his fitness.

According to international media reports Manchester City centre-back has been struggling with a hamstring problem despite completing England's dramatic 3-2 extra-time victory over Mexico in the round of 16.

Guehi was absent from Thursday's training session and remains a doubt as Thomas Tuchel's squad continue their preparations in Miami.

If the 26-year-old fails to return to training before the knockout clash, Tuchel could be forced into a late defensive reshuffle.

John Stones and Dan Burn, who both featured from the bench against Mexico, are the leading candidates to replace Guehi in central defence.

England are also monitoring the condition of midfielder Declan Rice, who missed a second consecutive training session after being struck down by illness.

The Arsenal midfielder has also been managing hamstring and back discomfort during the tournament, although sources believe Tuchel remains hopeful that both Rice and Guehi will be available for selection against Norway.

There was, however, some positive news for the Three Lions as Reece James returned to full training and is in contention to feature on Saturday.

The Chelsea full-back has not played since England's goalless group-stage draw with Ghana but could make an immediate return at right-back.

His availability would provide a timely boost following Jarell Quansah's two-match suspension, which has reduced Tuchel's defensive options.

England will be hoping their injury concerns ease before facing an in-form Norway side as they bid to secure a place in the World Cup semi-finals.
