Trent Rockets sign Mohammad Amir for The Hundred 2026

LONDON: Former Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Amir has signed for Trent Rockets ahead of the 2026 edition of The Hundred, which is scheduled to run from 21 July to 16 August.

The franchise announced the signing on its official social media channels, confirming that Amir will replace David Payne, who has been ruled out of the tournament through injury.

"Fast bowler Mohammad Amir will replace David Payne, who continues his recovery from an ankle injury. We wish David all the best in his recovery," the franchise wrote.

The left-arm seamer also expressed his delight after completing the move, sharing a brief message on his social media platform X.

"Happy to be part of Trent Rockets," Amir posted.

The 33-year-old represented Pakistan in 36 Tests, 61 One-Day Internationals and 62 Twenty20 Internationals during his distinguished international career. Last month, he became a British citizen after obtaining a UK passport.

He has featured in three seasons of the tournament, representing both London Spirit and Oval Invincibles, and has taken six wickets in eight matches.

Meanwhile, Pakistan spinners Abrar Ahmed and Usman Tariq were selected by their respective teams during the men's auction for The Hundred 2026, held at Piccadilly Lights.

Birmingham Phoenix secured Tariq for £140,000 (approximately PKR 53.2 million), making him the first Pakistani player picked in the auction after Haris Rauf, Shadab Khan and Saim Ayub went unsold in their respective rounds.

Sunrisers Leeds, the IPL-affiliated franchise formerly known as Northern Superchargers, also secured Abrar Ahmed for £190,000 (approximately PKR 71.2 million).

The 2026 edition of The Hundred will begin with MI London, formerly known as Oval Invincibles, taking on Sunrisers Leeds at The Oval in the tournament opener.
