Conor McGregor, Max Holloway clash at fiery UFC 329 face-off

LAS VEGAS: Conor McGregor and Max Holloway’s long-awaited rematch was overshadowed by a heated confrontation during UFC 329 pre-fight press conference, with tempers boiling over in the final face-off here at T-Mobile Arena on Thursday.

The rivals are set to meet again nearly 13 years after their first encounter, which McGregor won by unanimous decision.

The Irishman remained relatively restrained for much of the media event but repeatedly attempted to provoke Holloway with verbal taunts. The former featherweight champion initially brushed off the comments, maintaining his trademark composure.

Tensions escalated dramatically when the two men came face-to-face.

McGregor snatched the sunglasses off Holloway’s face and threw them to the floor before swatting away Holloway’s hand and pressing his forehead against his opponent’s.

Holloway stood his ground, prompting UFC president Dana White to intervene as security rushed in to separate the pair.

The situation briefly appeared to calm before flaring up once more. Holloway extended his hand in what seemed to be a gesture of respect, but McGregor slapped it away. Holloway reacted in disbelief, saying, “What the…” before cutting himself short.

Moments later, both fighters raised their hands and exchanged feints as security stepped in for a second time. Holloway kept his eyes fixed on McGregor while officials escorted them apart, further fuelling anticipation for their highly awaited rematch.

Looking ahead to Saturday’s bout, McGregor declared: “We’re coming in to win spectacularly. This is for all the marbles. I’m coming in like a missile. I’m going to destroy Max. I’m going to eliminate Max.”

The Irishman also reflected on the reception he received from fans, saying: “This is why I’m back, for the love of the game, and the love of fans.”
