India suffer double injury setback amid T20I series against England

MUMBAI: India men's cricket team on Thursday suffered a double injury setback as pacer Harshit Rana and mystery spinner Varun Chakaravarthy have been ruled out of their ongoing five-match away T20I series against England.

According to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), both Rana and Chakaravarthy sustained respective hamstring injuries and, after being assessed by its medical team, were deemed unavailable for the remaining two T20Is against England in Bristol and Southampton, respectively.

"Harshit Rana and Varun Chakaravarthy sustained hamstring injuries in the third T20I against England at Trent Bridge," the BCCI wrote on X, formerly Twitter.

"The BCCI Medical Team has assessed them and ruled them out of the 4th and 5th T20Is."

The double injury blow added to the touring side's woes, who are still searching for a victory since winning the ICC Men's T20 World Cup earlier this year, as they suffered a 2-0 whitewash against Ireland last month, while are trailing the two-time champions 2-0 in the five-match series, the penultimate fixture of which is currently underway at the County Ground in Bristol.

Meanwhile, Rana and Chakaravarthy, who played all of India's first three T20Is against England, have been replaced by Prasidh Krishna and Washington Sundar in their lineup for the ongoing fourth match.
