Newcastle United sign Dutch teenager Sean Steur from Ajax

Newcastle United have completed the signing of highly rated Dutch midfielder Sean Steur from Ajax on a five-year contract, with the 18-year-old becoming the club's latest addition ahead of the new Premier League season.

The Netherlands Under-19 international arrives at St James' Park after spending more than a decade in Ajax's renowned youth academy, having joined the Amsterdam club when he was just seven years old.

Ajax confirmed the transfer on Thursday, stating that the deal could be worth up to €27 million (£23.3 million/$31 million), reflecting the high regard in which the teenager is held.

Steur expressed his delight after sealing the move, describing the opportunity to play in England as the fulfilment of a lifelong ambition.

"It's an incredible feeling to be here. It's a giant club in the Premier League and it was always my dream to play in the best league in the world, so this is really exciting," Steur said.

The young midfielder also outlined the qualities he hopes to bring to Eddie Howe's side.

"I am a player who likes to get on the ball and play forward all the time. I am happy playing between the lines and I feel I have a lot of energy in my game. I just want to win."

Steur has been handed the number 14 shirt and becomes Newcastle's third senior signing of the summer transfer window.

He follows the arrivals of French goalkeeper Ewen Jaouen and Ivory Coast winger Bazoumana Toure as the Magpies continue to strengthen their squad for the upcoming campaign.
