Pakistan begin preparations for West Indies Test tour in Rawalpindi
Pakistan set to depart for West Indies on 13 July ahead of two match Test series
RAWALPINDI: Pakistan officially began preparations for their upcoming Test tour of the West Indies on Thursday, with the national side assembling for a pre-series training camp at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium ahead of their departure to the Caribbean.
Members of the Test squad took part in a three-hour training session under the supervision of the coaching staff, with players undergoing drills across all three departments of the game.
Red-ball head coach Sarfaraz Ahmed, batting coach Asad Shafiq and bowling coach Umar Gul oversaw the session, while captain Babar Azam and the rest of the squad also participated in an extensive nets session on the practice wickets.
As part of their preparations, Pakistan will play a two-day intra-squad scenario match on Friday and Saturday before departing for the Caribbean.
It is pertinent to mention that Pakistan are scheduled to leave for the West Indies on 13 July, where they will first feature in a four-day warm-up match starting on 18 July.
The visitors will then take on the West Indies in a two-Test series in Trinidad and Tobago, with the first Test scheduled from 25 to 29 July and the second from 2 to 6 August.
For the unversed, Pakistan hold a narrow advantage in the Test rivalry between the two sides, having won 22 of their 56 matches against the West Indies, who have recorded 19 victories, while 15 Tests have ended in draws.
The last time Pakistan toured the West Indies for a Test series was in August 2021, when the two-match contest ended in a 1-1 draw.
