Zimbabwe name squad for home T20I series against Bangladesh

HARARE: The Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) on Wednesday announced a 15-member squad for the three-match home T20I series against Bangladesh, scheduled to be played in Bulawayo from July 15 to 19.

According to the cricket board, its selection committee retained the core of the side that reached the Super Eight stage of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup for the first time in the 2026 edition following historic triumphs over Australia and co-hosts Sri Lanka.

Although the Chevrons lost all three of their matches in the subsequent stage, their strong showing in the early phase of the 20-team mega event was widely appreciated.

Consequently, the ZC made only three changes to the squad that made history at the T20 World Cup earlier this year, with Brendan Taylor and Tony Munyonga failing to make the cut, while Graeme Cremer was unavailable for selection after being ruled out with a left-arm fracture.

Ben Curran, who was drafted into Zimbabwe's T20 World Cup squad as an injury replacement for Taylor, retained his place, while uncapped Newman Nyamhuri, who is yet to make his shortest-format debut, came into the side on the back of impressive performances across formats.

In another change, top-order batter Milton Shumba, whose last appearance for the Chevrons in the shortest format came against Netherlands at the T20 World Cup 2022, also returned to the fold.

It is pertinent to mention that all three matches of the upcoming T20I bilateral series between Zimbabwe and Bangladesh will be played at the Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo on July 15, 17 and 19, respectively.
