Manzambi out injured as Switzerland name lineup for Colombia clash

Switzerland suffered a major blow before their World Cup Round of 16 match against Colombia as coach Murat Yakin was forced to shuffle his lineup on Tuesday after attacker Johan Manzambi was ruled out with an injury. At the same time, Colombia made one change to the side that beat Ghana.

Manzambi, who has been an important part of the Swiss team’s attack with three goals and two assists in four matches, suffered a knee contusion in training on Monday.

Manzambi was seen at the pitch-side wearing a brace on his left knee. He and Ruben Vargas will be replaced by Ardon Jashari and Fabian Rieder.

Michel Aebischer and Luca Jaquez are also sidelined for the Swiss due to muscle injuries.

Colombia made one change, with Luis Suarez replacing Jhon Cordoba.

Recent form

Switzerland started their World Cup campaign with a 1-1 draw against Qatar. They defeated Bosnia 4-1 and finished as group winners after a 2-1 victory over Canada. 

Colombia topped their group ahead of Portugal, with whom they drew 0-0 after defeating Uzbekistan 3-1 and DR Congo 1-0.

The Swiss team reached the Round of 16 with a 2-0 win over Algeria, while Colombia advanced after a 1-0 victory over Ghana.
