Pakistan captain Fatima named in Women's T20 World Cup Team of the Tournament

DUBAI: The International Cricket Council (ICC) on Monday unveiled the team of the tournament for the recently concluded Women's T20 World Cup 2026, featuring Pakistan captain Fatima Sana.

Although the Green Shirts could win only one match in the 12-team tournament, which came in their last group-stage fixture against Netherlands, their captain Fatima delivered consistent all-round performances throughout the mega event.

The 24-year-old spearheaded Pakistan's bowling attack in the World Cup and finished with a total of 11 wickets in five matches, coming at a remarkable average of 11.27. She also accumulated 85 runs in five innings.

Fatima's best performance came in Pakistan's narrow defeat against South Africa as she first recovered the Green Shirts from 50/8 to 126/9 with a blistering 55 not out and followed it up with a spirited bowling effort, which saw her take three wickets for just 16 runs in 2.5 overs.

Meanwhile, eventual champions Australia, who clinched the coveted Women's T20 World Cup title for the record-extending seventh time by defeating arch-rivals England in the blockbuster final, dominated the team of the tournament with the inclusion of four players – Beth Mooney, Ellyse Perry, Ashleigh Gardner and captain Sophie Molineux.

Whereas, runners-up and hosts England contributed two players, opener Danni Wyatt-Hodge and captain Nat Sciver-Brunt, while South Africa's Marizanne Kapp, Sri Lanka's Nilakshika de Silva, Ireland's Orla Prendergast and India's Shree Charani also made the cut to the playing XI.

Scotland all-rounder Darcey Carter, however, was named the 12th player as she accumulated 208 runs in five innings at an average of 52.00 and a strike rate of 111.82.
