Mason Jones returns to UFC action against MarQuel Mederos in Sacramento

SACRAMENTO: Welsh lightweight Mason Jones will make his return to the Octagon when he takes on American MarQuel Mederos at UFC Fight Night in Sacramento on August 22, aiming to extend his impressive winning run and move closer to a top-15 ranking in the lightweight division.

The 31-year-old from Blaenavon heads into the contest on the back of seven consecutive victories and has earned a reputation as one of the UFC's most entertaining fighters.

Jones collected a Fight of the Night bonus in his most recent outing after defeating Axel Sola in March.

His exciting fighting style has also been rewarded previously with a Performance of the Night bonus for his stoppage victory over Bolaji Oki in September 2025, while his memorable UFC debut against Mike Davis in January 2021 also earned Fight of the Night honours.

Jones boasts a professional record of 18 wins, two defeats and one no contest, and another victory could strengthen his case for a bout against one of the division's top-15 ranked contenders.

His opponent, MarQuel Mederos, enters the fight with a record of 11 wins, one loss and one draw.

The American fought Chris Padilla to a majority draw in his most recent appearance in April and will be looking to derail Jones' momentum.

The lightweight division remains one of the UFC's most competitive weight classes, with Justin Gaethje currently holding the undisputed title after defeating Ilia Topuria at UFC Freedom 250 in June. Britain's Paddy Pimblett is presently the highest-ranked British fighter in the division.

Jones is no stranger to Sacramento, having previously spent part of his career training with Team Alpha Male in the Californian city.

The event will be staged at the Golden 1 Center, with Anthony Hernandez facing Gregory Rodrigues in the co-main middleweight contest.
