All-round Shadab Khan helps Lancashire edge Derbyshire in Vitality Blast thriller

DERBY: Pakistan all-rounder Shadab Khan produced a match-winning all-round display as Lancashire secured a thrilling four-run victory over Derbyshire in a high-scoring Vitality Blast encounter at the County Ground on Wednesday.

Chasing a challenging target of 206, Derbyshire were bowled out for 201 in their allotted 20 overs despite a blistering 88 from captain Aneurin Donald, who struck nine fours and six sixes in a 37-ball innings.

Ross Whiteley provided valuable support with 46 from 29 deliveries, including four fours and three sixes, while Nick Potts made 32 off 24 balls, hitting three fours and a six. However, the remaining batters failed to make significant contributions.

Shadab starred with the ball, claiming 3/42 from his four overs. James Anderson, Tom Aspinwall and Jack Blatherwick each took two wickets to help Lancashire defend their total.

Earlier, Lancashire posted a formidable 205 all out in their 20 overs, thanks to explosive half-centuries from Ben McDermott and Shadab.

McDermott top-scored with 68 from 40 balls, smashing three fours and six sixes, while Shadab hammered 58 off just 22 deliveries, striking six fours and four sixes.

Opener Michael Jones and wicketkeeper-batter Matty Hurst both chipped in with 29 runs, but the rest of the batting line-up struggled.

Captain Keaton Jennings managed nine from eight balls, including one six, while Liam Livingstone was dismissed for two off six deliveries. 

Joseph Moores added five from five balls, Jack Blatherwick made one, and both Tom Hartley and James Anderson were dismissed without scoring.

For Derbyshire, Akif Javed was the standout bowler with impressive figures of 4/36 from four overs. Nick Potts claimed three wickets, while Matthew Montgomery and Sufiyan Muqeem took one wicket each.
