Pakistan's Arslan Ash captures eighth EVO Tekken championship

LAS VEGAS: Pakistan's Tekken star Arslan Ash further cemented his status as one of the greatest fighting game competitors of all time by defeating South Korea's Rangchu 3-2 in a gripping Tekken 8 Grand Final to win the Evolution Championship Series (EVO) 2026 on Monday at the West Hall of the Las Vegas Convention Center.

The victory earned the Lahore-born star a record-extending eighth EVO championship, while continuing his remarkable run of dominance at the world's most prestigious fighting game tournament.

Arslan entered the tournament as one of the favourites and lived up to expectations with composed performances throughout the competition.

Renowned for his trademark precision, defensive discipline and exceptional match-up knowledge, he outclassed a field featuring several former world champions and elite international players.

The triumph adds another historic chapter to an already unparalleled career, making Arslan the first player to win eight EVO Tekken championships across multiple editions and titles in the Evolution Championship Series.

Arslan's rise to global prominence began in 2019 when he stunned the fighting game community by winning both EVO Japan and EVO Las Vegas, defeating many of the sport's biggest names despite receiving little international recognition beforehand. 

Those victories transformed Pakistan into one of the world's leading Tekken nations. Since then, the Pakistani icon has continued to dominate the international scene.

He won EVO Japan and EVO Las Vegas again in 2023 before capturing the EVO 2024 and EVO 2025 Tekken 8 championships. He also claimed the EVO France 2025 title, taking his tally to seven before securing the latest EVO 2026 crown to reach eight championships.

Beyond his EVO success, Arslan achieved another major milestone by winning the Tekken World Tour Finals in 2023, completing the first-ever "Triple Crown" in competitive Tekken after claiming EVO Japan, EVO Las Vegas and the Tekken World Tour Finals in the same season.

He has also secured titles at several premier international events, including CEO and Combo Breaker, while consistently finishing on the podium across the global circuit.

Earlier this year, Arslan relocated to Japan to train and compete more regularly against the world's strongest players while reaffirming his commitment to representing Pakistan on the international stage.

Widely regarded as Pakistan's greatest esports athlete, Arslan has played a pivotal role in elevating the country's reputation within the global fighting game community.

His sustained excellence has inspired a new generation of Pakistani competitors, many of whom are now regular contenders at the world's biggest Tekken tournaments.
