Real Madrid sign Marc Cucurella until 2032

Real Madrid have confirmed the signing of Spanish defender Marc Cucurella from Chelsea on a contract on Sunday that will keep him at the Santiago Bernabeu until 2032.

While the Spanish giants did not disclose the financial details of the transfer, but according to international media the deal is worth an initial €55 million, with a further €5 million potentially payable in performance-related add-ons.

Cucurella becomes Madrid’s first official signing of the summer transfer window, although reports suggest the club have also reached agreements to sign Ibrahima Konate, Denzel Dumfries and Bernardo Silva.

The 27-year-old’s arrival comes shortly after Jose Mourinho was appointed as Real Madrid’s new head coach following the departure of Alvaro Arbeloa.

Mourinho is understood to have played a significant role in securing the defender’s signature.

Cucurella is currently in the United States with Spain’s national team as they prepare for their FIFA World Cup opener against Cabo Verde in Atlanta.

Madrid are expected to strengthen further, with Konate and Silva reportedly set to join when their contracts with Liverpool and Manchester City expire later this month.

The club are also planning to activate a €20 million release clause to bring Inter Milan full-back Dumfries to the Spanish capital.

The defender had attracted interest from both Barcelona and Atletico Madrid.

Barcelona had explored the possibility of re-signing their former academy graduate but prioritised reinforcements in other areas.

Atletico’s interest was more advanced, although Madrid moved swiftly to complete the deal.

Speaking earlier this year, Cucurella criticised Chelsea’s decision to dismiss Enzo Maresca, saying: “If you asked me, I would not done it.”

He also questioned the club’s overall direction following their Champions League exit to Paris Saint-Germain.
