Trent Grisham exits New York Yankees game with hamstring tightness

TORONTO: New York Yankees outfielder Trent Grisham exited against Toronto Blue Jays in the sixth inning after right hamstring tightness following a slide into second base here at Rogers Centre on Friday.

Grisham looked in discomfort after stretching for an extra base on a two-RBI hit off Mason Fluharty, having singled before advancing on a throw to home and sliding in ahead of a tag from shortstop Andres Gimenez.

Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Grisham felt hamstring tightness on the play and the team will assess the injury severity after he wakes up the next day.

"He just felt it around first," Boone said.

"Hopefully not too serious but we'll see, kind of see how he wakes up tomorrow."

"There's a chance we bring him up, depending on Grish, It just depends. We'll see what we have overnight and in the morning, but Jasson could be in play."

Max Schuemann came on as his replacement as the Yankees continued the contest.

Grisham has been in strong form recently, extending his hitting streak to 14 consecutive games and hits in 16 of his last 19 appearances. He is batting .232 with eight home runs and 35 RBI this season.

Boone confirmed Grisham would not undergo immediate imaging or further tests, with the club adopting a wait-and-see approach overnight.

The Yankees are already dealing with injuries to outfielders Aaron Judge (right rib) and Jasson Domínguez (left shoulder), adding concern to depth.

Grisham expressed frustration over the injury, saying they will assess it tomorrow with hope it’s minor and won’t require an IL stint.
