PCB reports record financial growth in PSL 11 briefing to Senate

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has reported record financial growth of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 11, informing a Senate committee that the tournament’s profitability has surged significantly following its expansion to eight teams.

A meeting of the Senate Standing Committee on Cabinet Secretariat, chaired by Rana Mahmood-ul-Hassan, was briefed that the league’s overall profits have risen from around Rs 2 billion to more than Rs 7.5 billion.

Officials told the committee that the addition of two new franchises played a key role in boosting revenue streams, with notable increases in broadcasting rights, sponsorship deals and franchise-related income.

Detailed financial statements for PSL 11 were presented during the session, outlining expenditure, revenue and profit in full.

According to official documents shared with the committee, total expenditure for the 11th edition of the tournament stood at over Rs 2.64 billion, while total revenue crossed Rs 10.19 billion. This resulted in a profit of more than Rs 7.54 billion before tax.

The PCB also provided comparative figures for previous editions, noting that the league generated approximately Rs 2 billion in profit in PSL 2025, while PSL 2024 recorded earnings of Rs 2.46 billion.

Officials highlighted that the financial performance reflects strong commercial growth and increasing market value of the league. They added that the expansion to eight teams has significantly strengthened the PSL’s business model, driving higher returns across multiple revenue channels.

The committee was further informed that sustained investor interest and growing media rights values continue to position the league as one of the most commercially successful sporting events in the region.

It is pertinent to mention that the latest season also featured a record expansion with two additional franchises, including RawalPindiz and Hyderabad Kingsmen, marking a historic step in the league’s development.

In the final, the Peshawar Zalmi defeated the Hyderabad Kingsmen at Gaddafi Stadium to clinch their second PSL title.

Hyderabad Kingsmen were bowled out for 129 in 18 overs despite a fighting 54 from Saim Ayub. Chasing 130, Zalmi were reduced to 40-4 before recovering through a crucial 85-run partnership between Aaron Hardie and Abdul Samad.

Hardie remained unbeaten on 56 as Zalmi sealed victory with five wickets in hand and 28 balls to spare, capping off a dramatic finish to the season.
