Pakistan suffer second defeat in Women’s T20 World Cup warm-up fixtures

DERBY: Scotland handed Pakistan their second consecutive defeat in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup warm-up fixtures, winning by 41 runs (DLS method) in a rain-affected encounter at the County Ground on Tuesday.

Batting first, Scotland posted a competitive 187-5 in their allotted 20 overs, powered by an outstanding innings from captain Kathryn Bryce and opener Darcey Carter.

Bryce led from the front with a blistering 94 off 43 deliveries, striking 11 fours and three sixes, while Carter contributed a solid 45 off 36 balls, including seven boundaries. 

Katherine Fraser added a quick 19 off 19 balls, and Priyanaz Chatterji remained unbeaten on 18 from 14 deliveries to boost Scotland’s total.

For Pakistan, Tasmia Rubab, Sadia Iqbal and Ayesha Zafar claimed one wicket each.

In reply, Pakistan were struggling at 62-5 in nine overs when persistent rain halted play. With no further resumption possible due to continuous showers, Scotland were declared winners under the DLS method.

Muneeba Ali Siddiqui top-scored for Pakistan with 20 off 22 deliveries, including a six, while Iram Javed made 14 off nine balls, striking two fours. Captain Fatima Sana and Aliya Riaz were unbeaten on 12 and one respectively.

For Scotland, Rachel Slater impressed with figures of 2-11 in two overs, while Bryce, Fraser and Chloe Abel picked up one wicket apiece.

It was Pakistan’s second defeat in the warm-up matches after they were beaten by Sri Lanka Women in their opening fixture, where they fell by nine wickets.

Pakistan had earlier posted 168-8 in 20 overs, before Sri Lanka chased down the target comfortably, losing just one wicket in 18.4 overs.

Looking ahead, the Girls in Green will begin their ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 campaign against arch-rivals India Women on June 14 at Edgbaston, before facing South Africa Women on June 17 at the same venue.
