Denmark coach Riemer praises 'beautiful unity' after Eriksen's collapse in friendly

Denmark coach Brian Riemer has praised the "beautiful unity" shown by those at the stadium in Odense following Christian Eriksen’s collapse in a friendly against Ukraine at the weekend.

Eriksen, 34, reached for his chest before collapsing to the ground in the 65th minute, sparking widespread concern, and the match was called off shortly after the incident on Sunday.

The Denmark midfielder has returned home and said he is recovering well.

"I want to let everyone know that I am doing well and that I am home with my family," he wrote on Instagram.

"As you can probably imagine, receiving a shock from my ICD has had a major effect on both me and my family, but I want to assure everyone that this was a different situation from what happened in 2021."

The former Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur midfielder reached an ambulance on his feet, but a statement from the Danish federation stated that he was "briefly unconscious."

Christian Eriksen has a history of heart-related incidents on the pitch. He suffered a cardiac arrest during a Euro 2020 match against Finland in 2021 and was fitted with an Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator (ICD) after that.

Riemer said it was a tough day for all of us, but the player has now returned home and is doing well. We should remember the “beautiful unity” everyone showed in a difficult moment.

"It has been a tough day for all of us, but fortunately Christian is doing well and is back home with his family," Riemer said on Monday.

"Now he and the players need to have some peace to process the experience, so that everyone can recover from the shock.

"In a difficult moment, everyone showed a beautiful unity, which I think is what we should remember about this evening."
