San Antonio Spurs shock New York Knicks at MSG to keep Finals alive

NEW YORK: San Antonio Spurs kept their NBA Finals hopes alive with a 115–111 victory over the New York Knicks in Game 3 here at Madison Square Garden on Monday, cutting the series deficit to 2–1.

San Antonio responded with an energetic, disciplined display, ending New York’s 13-game postseason winning streak.

Victor Wembanyama led the charge with 32 points, eight rebounds, six assists and three blocks, while Stephon Castle added 23 points as the pair became the first teammates aged 22 or under to each score 20+ points in an NBA Finals game.

The duo combined for 55 points, the Spurs’ highest shared output this post-season in a non-overtime game.

Wembanyama, who has now scored 25 or more points in three consecutive Finals games, said he has been managing the intensity of the occasion.

“I really tried to relax,” he said. “The playoffs, it’s like a whirlwind… I need some time off to let my brain cool down.”

He also revealed a quieter moment away from basketball, saying, “I drew the statue of that park. Not bad, pretty good,” referring to his time at Gramercy Park.

The Spurs impressed with 28 assists and six players scoring in double figures, with De’Aaron Fox adding 12 points and eight assists.

Head coach Mitch Johnson said his side remained composed despite the pressure, insisting they trusted their identity.

“If we play our brand of basketball up to our standard, we’ll be just fine,” he said.
