Carlos Alcaraz reacts to Alexander Zverev’s maiden Grand Slam win

World number two Carlos Alcaraz has reacted to Alexander Zverev’s maiden Grand Slam win at the French Open.

Zverev finally shattered the barrier between himself and Grand Slam glory by grinding down a stubborn Flavio Cobolli 6-1, 4-6, 6-4, 6-7(5), 6-1 in the French Open final on Sunday to lift a major trophy at Roland Garros.

After falling three times at the final hurdle, including in Paris two years ago, Zverev capped a relentless run by becoming the first German man to win a major title since Boris Becker's Australian Open triumph three decades ago.

Alcaraz was the winner of the French Open in both 2024 and 2025, but a wrist injury caused him to miss this year’s event in Paris. He has been out of action since April due to the injury.

The 22-year-old Spaniard, who defeated Zverev in five sets to claim his maiden French Open title, congratulated the German on his Instagram story.

“Congratulations Sascha for the title! You deserve it!,” Alcaraz wrote.

Carlos Alcaraz also sent a message to Cobolli as he wrote: “Congratulations Flavio for your first GS final! I’m sure there will be many more!”

Following his win at Roland Garros, Alexander Zverev said it was a special victory for him as he had the best and worst moments of his life on these courts.

“This court is so special to me in so many ways,” said the 28-year-old German.

“I’ve had the best moments of my life on this court. I had the worst moment of my life on these courts.

“I was laying in that corner over there four years ago with seven broken ligaments and two fractured bones.

“I lost a Grand Slam final here two years ago, but now finally it’s a happy end.”
