PCB provides major update on Maaz Sadaqat
Sadaqat was also ruled out of the National T20 Cup final while representing Abbottabad
LAHORE: Pakistan batter Maaz Sadaqat has been ruled out of action for at least two weeks after undergoing a successful laparoscopic appendectomy at a local hospital in Lahore, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) confirmed on Sunday.
As a result, the left-handed batter has also been ruled out of the ongoing final of the National T20 Cup 2025-26 at Gaddafi Stadium.
Maaz, who recently joined the Abbottabad squad as a replacement for Fakhar Zaman, trained with the side on Saturday night but complained of severe lower abdominal pain on Sunday morning.
He was immediately taken to hospital, where scans confirmed acute appendicitis. Doctors, in consultation with the PCB medical team, advised urgent surgery, which was carried out successfully.
The PCB stated that Maaz is now stable, with his vital signs normal and hemodynamically stable under close observation by the board’s medical staff.
The 21-year-old, who also opened for Pakistan in the recently concluded ODI series against Australia, had been named among 27 players for a white-ball camp at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) starting 15 June.
He will now join the camp after full recovery and upon clearance from the PCB medical panel.
Meanwhile, the PCB has announced separate red-ball and white-ball training camps at the NCA as part of preparations for upcoming international and domestic assignments. A total of 49 players will participate across both programmes.
The red-ball camp will run from 8 June to 10 July, featuring 22 players, while selected players from Pakistan’s recent ODI series against Australia will join from 15 June.
The white-ball camp will begin on 15 June and continue until 18 September, involving 27 players.
Both camps aim to enhance players’ fitness, skills and overall development under national and NCA coaches along with PCB medical staff support.
Pakistan are scheduled to return to international cricket with a two-match Test series against the West Indies in Trinidad and Tobago, set to be played from 25–29 July and 2–6 August respectively.
