BCCI allows Vaibhav Sooryavanshi's parents to join him on overseas tours

MUMBAI: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced that teenage batting sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi will be allowed to have his parents accompany him on India's overseas tours following his maiden senior international call-up.

The 15-year-old was named in India's T20I squad for the upcoming tours of Ireland and England, as well as the Asian Games, after a remarkable Indian Premier League (IPL) campaign in which he dominated the batting charts.

Sooryavanshi is currently in Sri Lanka with the India A squad participating in a tri-nation series.

"His father will be flying to Sri Lanka today," BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia said on Sunday.

"If his parents wish to accompany him to England and Ireland, we will make arrangements for their travel. They would be his strongest support system."

India, three-time T20 World Cup champions, are scheduled to face Ireland in Belfast on 26 and 28 June before taking on England in a five-match T20I series starting on 1 July.

The Asian Games will take place in Japan during September and October.

Sooryavanshi earned national selection after a sensational IPL season with the Rajasthan Royals, where he amassed 776 runs to finish as the tournament's leading run-scorer.

The left-handed opener registered one century and five half-centuries during the campaign and swept the major individual honours, claiming the Orange Cap, the Most Valuable Player award and the Emerging Player of the Tournament prize.

The youngster is also in line to become India's youngest international cricketer, surpassing the record of legendary batter Sachin Tendulkar, who made his Test debut at the age of 16 years and 205 days in 1989.
