Arsenal trio shortlisted for PFA award honour

Arsenal trio Declan Rice, Gabriel Magalhaes and David Raya have been shortlisted for the Professional Footballers’ Association men’s Player of the Year award, joining Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes and Manchester City pair Erling Haaland and Rayan Cherki on the six-man shortlist.

The nominations have been chosen following an impressive individual season in a Premier League that was a very competitive campaign.

The Football Writers' Association recently gave a boost to Fernandes' fortunes by awarding him the men's footballer of the year.

He had a record breaking season, with 21 assists for Manchester United, to finish third in the Premier League.

The appearance of Arsenal in the list shows their impressive home campaign.

Midfielder Declan Rice, defender Gabriel Magalhaes, and goalkeeper David Raya were all instrumental as the Gunners secured their first Premier League title in 22 years.

Haaland once again underlined his goalscoring prowess, finishing as the league’s Golden Boot winner with 27 goals.

Meanwhile, Cherki impressed in his debut Premier League season, contributing creativity and attacking flair for Manchester City.

Mohamed Salah, who scored 29 goals to lead Liverpool to the Premier League title last season, took the PFA's award.

The finalists were chosen after a rigorous shortlist process, and the winner of this year's prestigious honour will be announced at the 53rd annual PFA Awards Ceremony on Tuesday, 25 August, in Manchester.

It is generally seen as one of the most prestigious individual award in English football, and it is often a sign of a season of great performances from that player.
