West Indies win T20I tri-series after Pakistan-Ireland washout

DUBLIN: The West Indies women's cricket team won the T20I tri-series after the last fixture between Pakistan and hosts Ireland was washed out without a ball bowled due to persistent rain here on Thursday.

Although Pakistan were already out of the title race following their washout against West Indies at the same venue on Wednesday, the home side, Ireland, were in contention as they needed to win the recently-abandoned fixture to win the T20I tri-series.

But it rained persistently here and did not allow a single ball to be bowled, resulting in Ireland missing out on the opportunity to win the home T20I tri-series as they finished second with 10 points in four matches, falling behind West Indies due to an inferior net run rate as the Caribbean side also ended up with 10 points in as many games.

The abandonment of the fixture also meant Pakistan ended their T20I tri-series campaign winless, thus finishing at the bottom with just four points in four games.

Pakistan kicked off their campaign with a 25-run defeat at the hands of eventual winners West Indies before losing to Ireland by seven wickets.

After a disappointing T20I tri-series, the Green Shirts will depart for England to participate in the ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2026, scheduled to run from June 12 to July 5.

The Green Shirts, slotted in Group 1, will give final touches to their preparations for the mega event with two warm-up matches against Sri Lanka and Scotland, scheduled to be played in Derby on June 6 and 9, respectively.

Pakistan will then formally kick off their T20 World Cup campaign on June 14 by locking horns with arch-rivals India at Edgbaston in Birmingham.
