DHAKA: Bangladesh pace bowling coach Shaun Tait has stepped down from his role ahead of the home white-ball series against Australia, confirming his decision on Thursday.
Former Bangladesh fast bowler Talha Jubair is expected to step in as interim pace bowling coach for the Australia series.
“Yes, I have stepped down,” Tait said, without offering further details.
The former Australia fast bowler, whose contract with the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) runs until the 2027 ICC ODI World Cup, joined the set-up in May 2025 and made a notable impact during his tenure.
He has been widely credited for his role in the rapid development of young pacer Nahid Rana, whose express pace has marked him as one of Bangladesh’s most promising fast bowlers.
A BCB source confirmed that Tait had informed the board of his decision earlier, with family reasons believed to be behind his departure.
It remains uncertain whether he will report for duty ahead of the Australia series, despite previously being scheduled to join the pre-series training camp.
It is pertinent to mention that Australia are set to tour Bangladesh from June 9 to 21 for a six-match white-ball series comprising three ODIs and three T20Is.
The ODI series will be played at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka on June 9, 11 and 14, before the action shifts to Chattogram for the T20Is at the Bir Shreshtho Flight Lieutenant Matiur Rahman Stadium on June 17, 19 and 21.
Meanwhile, the Bangladesh Board recently announced a 15-member squad for the first two ODIs, marking the return of all-rounder Mosaddek Hossain after a four-year absence.
Wicketkeeper-batter Quazi Nurul Hasan also returned to the side, replacing Afif Hossain and Mahidul Islam Ankon.
Bangladesh squad for first two ODIs: Mehidy Hasan Miraz (c), Soumya Sarkar, Saif Hassan, Tanzid Hasan, Najmul Hossain Shanto, Towhid Hridoy, Litton Das, Mosaddek Hossain Saikat, Quazi Nurul Hasan Sohan, Rishad Hossain, Tanvir Islam, Mustafizur Rahman, Taskin Ahmed, Shoriful Islam and Nahid Rana.
