SAN ANTONIO: New York Knicks staged a remarkable comeback to defeat the San Antonio Spurs 105–95 in Game One of the NBA Finals here at Frost Bank Center on Wednesday, overturning a 14-point third-quarter deficit to take an early lead in the series.

Jalen Brunson delivered a standout performance with 30 points, 13 of which came in the final quarter as the Knicks surged ahead in the closing stages.

New York finished strongly, scoring 11 unanswered points in the final two minutes to seal a decisive victory on the road.

The win extended their current winning streak to 12 games, equalling the second-best postseason run in NBA history, previously set by the Spurs in 1999.

The result also marks the Knicks’ most successful Finals appearance since their 1999 meeting with San Antonio, when they were ultimately beaten for the championship.

The franchise is now aiming to secure its first NBA title since 1973.

Karl-Anthony Towns, who contributed 18 points and 12 rebounds, praised the impact of the fans.

“It's something that's in the city, you feel that energy in the city. The grit, the grind, the hard work you've got to put in to make it in the city,” Karl-Anthony said.

“I think we reflect our fans and their lifestyles and what it takes to make it in New York City, when we step on that court with the Knicks jersey.”

For the Spurs, Victor Wembanyama endured a difficult night, despite leading his team in scoring. He converted just six of 21 shots.

The best-of-seven series continues in San Antonio on Friday.
