France head coach Didier Deschamps has allayed concerns over the fitness of defender William Saliba ahead of this summer’s FIFA World Cup, insisting the Arsenal centre-back is not facing any serious issues.

There had been fears that Saliba could miss the tournament after reports suggested the 25-year-old was due to undergo scans on a back problem sustained several weeks ago.

Deschamps, however, has tried to ease fears, saying the goalkeeper's condition is being closely watched and treated.

Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday ahead of France’s friendly against Ivory Coast in Nantes, Deschamps confirmed that Saliba is fit and available to play.

"William is fine and will be managed. If he had needed to play tomorrow, he would have played."

Saliba is not expected to feature against Ivory Coast, but his availability for the World Cup does not appear to be in doubt.

The Arsenal defender enjoyed an outstanding campaign, making 50 appearances from a possible 63 matches as the Gunners secured the Premier League title and reached the UEFA Champions League final.

France will also face Northern Ireland in Lille on 8 June before travelling to North America for the World Cup, where they begin their campaign against Senegal on 16 June.

When asked whether he already knew his starting line-up for the opening match, Deschamps replied.

"Of course I do, yes. But you never know. There will be two matches between now and then, things can happen."

The France boss also confirmed he would carefully manage the workload of several Paris Saint-Germain players, adding.

"I'll have to manage playing time, distribute the players, even if it goes against the team's wishes. All 26 players are in good condition."
