Mitchell Robinson has been listed as questionable for Game 1 of the NBA Finals between the New York Knicks and the San Antonio Spurs after undergoing surgery last week to repair a broken finger.
International media reports mentioned that the centre remains determined to feature in the series opener, though he must still receive final clearance from the Knicks’ medical and training staff.
Robinson, who suffered a fracture to the fifth metacarpal in his right hand, took part in light shooting and dribbling during NBA Finals media day.
Knicks head coach Mike Brown remained cautious over the big man’s availability at the Frost Bank Center on Wednesday, saying he would consult the team’s medical staff before making any decision.
Robinson completed some individual work on Monday as part of his recovery process.
The 28-year-old wore a protective black wrap on his shooting hand during practice and has not publicly explained when or how the injury occurred.
According to media reports, the setback took place at his home in the lead-up to New York’s first Finals appearance since 1999.
Robinson has featured in 13 of the Knicks’ 14 play-off games this season, averaging 5.3 points and 5.5 rebounds in limited minutes off the bench.
He previously made a significant impact in the NBA Cup final victory over the Spurs in December, contributing 15 rebounds and two blocks.
The Knicks are chasing their first NBA championship since 1973.
The Knicks remain hopeful Robinson will be cleared before tip-off, pending final medical evaluation update expected.
