Former world champion Daniel Dubois has revealed the real reason behind reunion with trainer Don Charles.

Dubois separated from his trainer, Charles, following a defeat to undisputed heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk.

The pair had previously linked up for a two-year partnership that saw Dubois crowned IBF heavyweight champion, securing three consecutive victories.

Charles and Dubois started working with each other in 2023 ahead of his first showdown with Usyk. The Ukrainian came out victorious in Poland with a ninth-round knockout, having dropped the British boxer twice.

Following that defeat, Daniel Dubois beat Jarrell Miller, Filip Hrgovic and Anthony Joshua under Charles' guidance.

Following the separation from Charles, Dubois announced Tony Sims as his fourth professional trainer.

Dubois announced the decision to return to Charles in a social media post, but has revealed the reason of patchup to talkSPORT in detail.

"We sat down and had a family meeting, and we decided to do that U-turn because I had the best nights with Don,” Dubois said.

"He knows me as a person, it just makes sense. I think it was everyone needed to go away and think about things.

"It was a quick and rash decision, but I'm glad we are back together and he is the right heavyweight trainer for me."

When asked why he was separating from Sims, with whom he had been working out at the Matchroom Boxing gym in Essex, with an aim to improve his skills, he said Charles is the better option for him.

"Yeah that's about right [didn't gel with Sims],” he added.

"I feel like the person and character I am, Don is the right guy for me, he will help me get back to the glory days."
