Real Madrid star Kylian Mbappe has equalled Cristiano Ronaldo’s record for most goals in the group stage of the UEFA Champions League.

Mbappe scored a brace for Los Blancos against AS Monaco in a 6-1 win at the Bernabeu.

France international is in a sensational form, and carried his impressive run to the Champions League, scoring a double in the first half of the match against Monaco.

Mbappe has scored 11 goals in six matches in the competition for Real.

Mbappe opened the scoring in the fifth minute and gave Madrid a two-goal lead when he found the back of the net again in the 26th minute.

Real Madrid star’s second goal took him level with his idol Ronaldo, who scored 11 goals in the group/league phase of the Champions League in the 2015/16 season.

No player other than Ronaldo and Mbappe has scored more goals in the group stage of the UCL to date.

Previously, Kylian Mbappe had also become the second Real Madrid player, after Cristiano Ronaldo, to score 53 or more goals in a calendar year.

The Frenchman achieved the milestone during a 1-1 draw against Girona, scoring the goal for his team on November 30.

The Frenchman achieved the landmark in his first full calendar year with the Spanish club; the Portuguese star has done it five times in his nine seasons at the club.

Madrid will face Benfica in the last game of the Champions League group stage, where Mbappe will have a chance to set the record by himself.

Earlier this season, Mbappe spoke about Ronaldo, saying he is his role model and the reference point at Real Madrid.

"Cristiano has always been a role model for me. I'm lucky enough to talk to him, he gives me advice, he's helped me. I think in Madrid he's still the number one. He's the reference point for Real Madrid players, who's done a lot. The fans still dream about Cristiano. But I want to follow my own path," Mbappe said.
