Australia’s T20I squad is expected to arrive in Lahore on January 28
LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board is expected to announce the squad and training camp for the upcoming T20I series against Australia within the next day or two, sources told Geo News on Wednesday.
The three-match T20 International series will begin on 29 January, with all fixtures scheduled to be played in Lahore as evening matches. The remaining games will take place on 31 January and 1 February.
Australia’s T20I squad is expected to arrive in Lahore on Wednesday, 28 January.
Sources indicate that Pakistan’s team management is keen to rely on spin options for the series, with Usman Tariq likely to be retained in the squad.
The probable line-up is also expected to include fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi, while the inclusion of Mohammad Wasim Jr appears unlikely. Batter Khawaja Nafay is set to retain his place.
The series will serve as important preparation for both sides ahead of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, scheduled to be held in India and Sri Lanka from 7 February to 8 March.
Pakistan have been drawn in Group A alongside India, the USA, the Netherlands and Namibia, while Australia will compete in Group B with Sri Lanka, Ireland, Zimbabwe and Oman.
This tour will mark Australia’s third visit to Pakistan since March–April 2022, when they toured the country for a historic Test series, followed by an ODI series and a one-off T20I.
Australia also played three matches of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 in Pakistan.
The Kangaroos recorded a narrow three-wicket victory in the only T20I played at Gaddafi Stadium on 5 April 2022.
Historically, Pakistan and Australia have faced each other 28 times in T20 Internationals. Australia have won 14 matches, while Pakistan have secured 12 victories, with one match tied and one producing no result.
