Six-time major champion Nick Faldo has returned home after undergoing successful open-heart surgery in the United States, his team announced on Friday.
The 68-year-old Englishman, who won both the Masters and the Open Championship three times, with his last major triumph coming at Augusta in 1996, spent two weeks in Cleveland, where he underwent scheduled preventive open-heart surgery to repair an enlarged aorta.
Nick’s team posted on X (formerly known as Twitter) that Faldo’s message began, signalling relief and gratitude after two weeks recovering in the hospital.
“Headed home,” Faldo said.
“After two weeks in Cleveland, Nick Faldo, and his wife, Lindsay, are on their way home following a successful, scheduled preventative open-heart surgery to repair his enlarged aorta, performed by world-renowned cardiac surgeon Dr. Lars Svensson at The Cleveland Clinic. We are deeply grateful for Dr. Svensson and his exceptional medical team.”
The team added that Faldo is eager to get back on his feet.
“Nick is now looking ahead to returning to his golf course design work and to the Masters Week in Augusta where he will be celebrating 'Six back in '96,'” his team added.
“Home never felt so good.”
Faldo, who claimed 30 wins on the European Tour, spent a total of 97 weeks atop the world rankings and represented Europe in the Ryder Cup 11 times, also captaining the team in 2008.
