Mitchell Starc named ICC Men’s Player of the Month for December 2025

Australian pace spearhead Mitchell Starc has been named ICC Men’s Player of the Month for December 2025 following his outstanding performances in Australia’s dominant 4-1 Ashes series victory at home.

Starc beat out two other notable performers: West Indies' Justin Greaves, who scored his maiden double century against New Zealand in Christchurch, and Jacob Duffy, who claimed 25 wickets in New Zealand's 2-0 series triumph over the West Indies.

"It's an honour to be named the ICC Player of the Month, and even more special that it came on the back of such a successful home Ashes," Starc said. "Playing a part in winning such an iconic series in front of our home crowd is something we will all cherish for a long time."

Reflecting on the team’s recent performances and looking ahead to upcoming challenges, Starc emphasised the importance of maintaining momentum and building on their success.

"As a team, we've had some outstanding performances in recent years. The focus now is on building that momentum towards next year's ICC World Test Championship Final," he stated.

The left-arm pacer began the month by taking 10 wickets in Australia's win over England in the first Ashes Test at Perth, followed by eight wickets in Brisbane. 

He then shared the workload with fellow Australian bowlers, picking up four wickets each in the Adelaide and Melbourne Tests, finishing December with a total of 16 wickets.

His impact extended with the bat as well. Half-centuries in Brisbane and Adelaide were instrumental in helping Australia secure an unassailable 3-0 lead in the five-match series. 

Australia eventually claimed the series 4-1, with Starc ending as the highest wicket-taker (31 wickets) and earning the Player of the Series award.

This marks the first time Starc has received the ICC Men's Player of the Month accolade, ending a two-year wait for an Australian winner. The last Australian to claim the award was Pat Cummins in December 2023.
