WAPDA, PTV win third round matches of President's Trophy Grade-I

Mohammad Zeeshan was the star with figures of six wickets for 66 runs in 18 overs

KARACHI: Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) defeated Sahir Associates by an innings and 32 runs in the third-round match of the ongoing President's Trophy Grade-I 2025-26 at the UBL Sports Complex on Sunday.

Batting first, WAPDA posted 323 runs in 89.2 overs, thanks to a brilliant century from Mohammad Ammar and a solid innings from skipper Khalid Usman.

Ammar top-scored with 147 off 274 balls, including 23 fours, while Khalid contributed 93 off 174 balls with eight fours and two sixes.

Sahir Associates’ bowlers Khan Zeb and Razaullah troubled WAPDA’s lineup, claiming four wickets each, while Bilawal picked up one.

In reply, Sahir Associates were bowled out for 103 in 39.2 overs as WAPDA’s bowlers dominated.

Mohammad Adil took four wickets, with Naqeebullah and Mohammad Zeeshan claiming three wickets each. 

Skipper Asim Ali Nasir was the top scorer for Sahir Associates with 58 off 99 balls, but the rest of the batting lineup failed to make an impact.

Forced to follow-on, Sahir Associates managed 188 in their second innings.

Tail-ender Mohammad Mohsin Khan top-scored with 51 off 53 balls, including six fours and three sixes.

WAPDA’s Mohammad Zeeshan was the star with figures of six wickets for 66 runs in 18 overs, while Mohammad Adil took three wickets and Naqeebullah added one more.

In the next match of the ongoing tournament, Amad Butt’s six-wicket haul helped defending champions Pakistan Television (PTV) defeat Ghani Glass by 88 runs at the National Bank Stadium.

Batting first, PTV were bundled out for 186 in 38.4 overs. Opening batter and skipper Shamyl Hussain top-scored with 68 off 76 deliveries, hitting five fours and four sixes.

Mir Hamza starred for Ghani Glass, taking five wickets for 55 runs in 14.4 overs. Khurram Shahzad and Afaq Afridi took two wickets each, while Ali Razzaq picked up one.

In response, Ghani Glass scored 223 runs, gaining a first-innings lead of 37 runs.

Khurram Shahzad was the top scorer with 48 off 40 balls, including eight fours and one six, while Yahya Bin Abdul Rehman contributed 43 runs.

For PTV, Amad Butt took four wickets in 14.2 overs, and Israr Hussain and Mohammad Ilyas Khan took two wickets each.

In their second innings, PTV were bundled out for 193 in 58.2 overs. Mohammad Suleman top-scored with 45 off 72 deliveries, while Arafat Minhas and Musa Khan contributed 34 and 32 runs respectively.

Chasing a target of 157, Ghani Glass were bowled out for just 68 runs in 14 overs, thanks to an exceptional performance by Amad Butt, who claimed six wickets for 29 runs in seven overs.

Musa Khan picked up three wickets, and Israr Hussain added one more. Noman Ali and Khurram Shahzad were the top scorers for Ghani Glass with 23 and 22 runs, respectively.

In another round match at the National Bank of Pakistan Sports Complex, Mohammad Sarwar’s gritty knock helped Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (ODGCL) gain a comfortable position against Khan Research Laboratories (KRL).

Batting first, ODGCL were bundled out for 244 in 82.4 overs, with Danish Aziz being the top scorer after a hard-fought knock of 56 off 95 deliveries, which included seven fours. Jawad Ali contributed 32 runs, while Mohammad Sarwar Afridi added 31.

For KRL, Mohammad Hamza led the bowling attack with figures of 4 for 31 in 16.4 overs. Ahmed Bashir claimed three wickets, while Arshad Iqbal picked up two scalps.

In reply, KRL posted 347 in 105.5 overs, taking a first-innings lead. Waqar Ahmed led the charge with 81 off 107 deliveries, while opener Mirza Saad Baig scored 80. Imran Rafiq chipped in with 77, which included seven fours.

For ODGCL, Adil Ameen was the pick of the bowlers with 3 for 33 in 17.5 overs. Mushtaque Ahmed and Mohammad Huzaifa took two wickets each, while Mohammad Imran and Jawad Ali claimed one apiece.

ODGCL resumed their second innings and ended the third day at 199 for 4 in 68 overs, holding a lead of 96 runs. Mohammad Sarwar remained unbeaten on 90, with Adil Ameen providing support at the other end on 33.

In the third-round match at the State Bank Stadium, Shehzad Gul’s impressive five-wicket haul put Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) on the brink of victory against hosts State Bank of Pakistan (SBP).

Chasing a target of 224, SBP ended the third day’s play at 170-8, needing a further 54 runs to win. The home side was rocked by a fiery bowling spell from Shehzad Gul, who returned figures of 5/49 in 15 overs.

Qasim Akram remained unbeaten on 33, while Mohammad Abbas was at the other end with seven runs. Abdullah Fazal was the top scorer for SBP with 41, hitting five fours before losing his wicket.

Earlier in the day, SNGPL resumed their second innings at 23-3 but were bundled out for just 75 in 36.3 overs.

Niaz Khan led the charge for SBP with a brilliant spell, claiming five wickets for 38 runs in 15.3 overs. Mohammad Ismail and Mohammad Abbas picked up two wickets each, while Shahid Aziz chipped in with one.

Skipper Shan Masood was the top scorer for SNGPL with 26 off 37 deliveries, including four boundaries, as the rest of the batting lineup failed to offer resistance.

Earlier, Shehzad Gul had claimed his maiden first-class five-wicket haul to strengthen SNGPL’s command in the match. SNGPL resumed their first innings at 197 for 4 and were eventually bowled out for 263 in 102.5 overs.

Opening batter Azan Awais led the way with a composed 129 off 295 balls, featuring 16 fours and a six, while Shan Masood contributed 35 off 72 deliveries.

For SBP, Shahid Aziz took four wickets for 57 runs, while Niaz Khan and Mohammad Ismail claimed two wickets each. Mohammad Abbas and Qasim Akram picked up one wicket apiece.

In reply, SBP’s batting unit collapsed for a modest 115 in 32.4 overs despite Rameez Aziz’s fighting knock of 43.

Shehzad starred with the ball once again, taking five wickets, while Shahnawaz Dahani supported him with four wickets and Bilawal Bhatti added one.
