The Miami Dolphins have finalised an agreement to hire Green Bay Packers vice president of player personnel Jon-Eric Sullivan as general manager.
The move will allow the franchise to step forward towards hiring a new head coach, with reportedly strong links to former Baltimore Ravens coach John Harbaugh.
Sullivan is set to replace Chris Grier, who was fired on October 31 by the Dolphins after serving in that role since 2016.
The reports of the hiring come a day after Miami sacked head coach Mike McDaniel.
Miami ended with a 7-10 record, which is their worst since they wrapped up the 2019 season with only five wins, which led to McDaniel's firing.
McDaniel, 42, in his first two years as a coach, posted a 35-33 record with postseason appearances in both of his outings with the team. Following this, he signed a three-year contract extension in August 2024.
McDaniel's firing marks the eighth after the conclusion of the regular season.
NFL franchise Dolphins' owner Stephen Ross announced his decision to fire Mike on Thursday in a statement.
"After careful evaluation and extensive discussions since the season ended, I have made the decision that our organization is in need of comprehensive change," Ross said in a statement.
"I love Mike and want to thank him for his hard work, commitment, and the energy he brought to our organization. Mike is an incredibly creative football mind whose passion for the game and his players was evident every day. I wish him and his family the best moving forward."
Sullivan, who will be taking charge as the Dolphins’ new general manager been with the Packers for the past two decades in different places, including a variety of scouting and personnel roles. For the last four seasons, he was the team's VP of player personnel.
