Manchester City have signed Ghanaian winger Antoine Semenyo from Bournemouth, the Premier League club confirmed on Friday.
Semenyo has joined the reigning champions on a contract running until 2031, becoming City’s first new signing of the January transfer window.
The financial details of the deal were not disclosed, but British media reported that City had agreed to meet his £65 million ($87 million) release clause, amid interest from other Premier League clubs.
Semenyo expressed his pride at joining Manchester City, praising the club’s players, facilities, and manager Pep Guardiola. He sees the move as the perfect opportunity to develop further and believes his best football is still ahead.
"I am so proud to have joined Manchester City," Semenyo said.
"They have set the highest of standards and it's a club with world-class players, world-class facilities and one of the greatest managers ever in Pep [Guardiola].
"I have so much scope for improvement, so to be at this club, at this stage of my career, is perfect for me. It's a real privilege to be here.
"My best football is yet to come, I am sure of that."
The Chelsea-born winger, 26, bid farewell to Bournemouth in style by scoring a stoppage-time winner in Wednesday’s 3-2 victory against Tottenham.
Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola acknowledged Semenyo’s inevitable departure, praising his immense contribution to the team.
"He has scored 10 goals in half a season and not even a number nine. It is not just the numbers but a lot of things, the physicality, the balls in the air and the defensive things. He will be a big miss," Iraola said.
