Manchester United interim manager Darren Fletcher has named the young Shea Lacey as the future of Old Trafford, saying he will be a big part of the club’s future.

United dropped more points against the second-bottom Premier League team, Burnley, on Wednesday following a 2-2 draw.

This was United’s first match under Fletcher following the sacking of previous manager Ruben Amorim on Monday.

United appeared to be heading for all three points before Burnley substitute Jaidon Anthony struck an equaliser in the 66th minute against the run of play.

Capitalising on slack defending, Anthony fired a blistering shot from the edge of the penalty area past the helpless goalkeeper.

Burnley had taken a shock early lead in the 13th minute when a cross from Bashir Humphreys deflected heavily off United defender Ayden Heaven and looped into the far corner of the net.

Benjamin Sesko ended a nine-game goal drought shortly after half-time, equalising in the 50th minute. The Slovenian striker then completed his brace 10 minutes later, steering home Patrick Dorgu’s cross with a superb volley to give United the lead.

In the absence of Amad Diallo and Bryan Mbeumo due to commitments with national teams, playing in the AFCON, the 18-year-old Lacey has been inducted into the senior team, making his debut off the bench against Aston Villa.

The winger was brought in against Burnley with six minutes of the match remaining and almost scored for United, playing a thrilling cameo.

In a post-match press conference, Fletcher lauded the youngster, saying he will be a big part of Manchester United’s success in the future.

“I said to him, “stay wide and go and do what you can do” and he did that. I know he is going to have an impact,” Fletcher said.

“He is exciting, he is direct, he is fearless. He had a really bright game.

“I’m pleased for him. He has had a lot of injuries in recent years and he hasn’t been able to get his momentum going but we know the talent he has got. He will be a big part of Manchester United’s future, I have no doubts about that.”
