MELBOURNE: Players participating at the Australian Open will compete for their share of a record A$111.5 million (US$74.9 million) prize pool this year, following Tennis Australia’s announcement of a 16% increase in total prize money for 2026 on Tuesday.

Winners will take home A$4.15 million (US$2.79 million), up 19% from last year’s A$3.5 million (US$2.35 million), while early-round participants will also benefit from significant increases.

A first-round exit now earns a record A$150,000 (US$100,750), providing wildcard entrants with a substantial pay packet to kick-start their year on the tour.

Qualifiers have also seen a rise in earnings, with exits in any of the three rounds generating an additional 16% compared with 2025.

Tennis Australia has significantly raised prize money and player benefits to make professional tennis more sustainable for everyone.

"This 16% increase demonstrates our commitment to supporting tennis careers at every level," said Tennis Australia CEO Craig Tiley.

"From boosting qualifying prize money by 55% since 2023 to enhancing player benefits, we're ensuring professional tennis is sustainable for all competitors."

It is pertinent to mention that last year, the US Open offered the largest Grand Slam prize fund at US$90 million, while Wimbledon offered a total of £53.5 million (US$72.49 million) and the French Open €56.35 million (US$66.12 million).

The Australian Open will be held at Melbourne Park from January 18th to February 1st.
