Amanda Serrano celebrated her Puerto Rican homecoming with a commanding points victory over Reina Tellez, retaining her WBA, WBO, and The Ring featherweight titles.
The 37-year-old, fighting in San Juan for the first time since 2021, imposed herself on Tellez with slick combinations and showcased her ring craft at the Coliseo Roberto Clemente.
In the fifth round, American challenger Tellez, who took the fight on just 15 days' notice, managed to swell Serrano’s right eye with an overhand left.
Despite this setback, Serrano’s experience proved decisive, as she dominated the later rounds to secure a unanimous decision with scores of 98-92, 97-93, and 97-93.
The victory moves Serrano’s professional record to 48 wins and four losses, three of which came against undisputed light-welterweight champion Katie Taylor, along with one draw. Notably, the 10-round contest was fought under men’s boxing regulations.
After the fight, Serrano expressed her gratitude to Tellez for stepping in at short notice and reflected on her return to the featherweight division, promising even stronger performances in the future.
“I’m super thankful and grateful to Reina for coming on short notice and coming to fight,” Serrano said. “She’s a warrior. It’s been two years since I fought at this weight. I feel the next fights are going to be much better, and I’m glad I could give the fans a show.”
In the co-main event, Holly Holm fell short in her attempt to become a four-division world champion, as she was outpointed by WBA lightweight title-holder Stephanie Han.
