Anthony Joshua's driver has been charged following a crash on the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway in Nigeria, killing the boxer’s personal trainer, Latif "Latz" Ayodele and strength and conditioning coach Sina Ghami and injuring the boxer, BBC reported on Friday.

According to the report, Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode, 46, was charged on Friday at the Sagamu Magistrate's Court. The charges included causing death by dangerous driving.

The report continued saying four charges were brought by Prosecutors against Mr Kayode, including causing death by dangerous driving, negligent and reckless driving, driving without a valid driver's licence and driving without due care.

The case has been adjourned until 20 January.

Joshua’s Lexus Jeep collided with a stationary truck on Monday, which caused the boxer minor injuries, and he was rushed to the hospital after the incident.

A comprehensive statement issued by the Federal Road Safety Corps after the crash said: “The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) wishes to confirm a fatal road traffic crash that occurred today Monday, 29 December 2025, along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway.

“Two persons sadly lost their lives, one sustained injuries, while two others escaped unhurt. Anthony Joshua was rescued alive and sustained minor injuries.”

The FRSC stated the Lexus was "suspected to be travelling beyond the legally prescribed speed limit", based on preliminary findings.

It added that the car appeared to have "lost control during an overtaking manoeuvre", which was the cause of the crash.

Anthony Joshua was discharged from the hospital on Wednesday.

Joshua has family roots in Sagamu, a town in Ogun State, south-west Nigeria, and he arrived there recently for the holidays following his victory over YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul on December 19 in Miami.
