NEW YORK: The New York Yankees have signed utility player Amed Rosario to a one-year contract worth $2.5 million for the 2026 season, the Major League Baseball (MLB) announced on Tuesday.
Rosario, 30, joined the Yankees after being traded from the Washington Nationals in July. During his brief stint with New York, he batted .303 with one home run and five RBIs in 16 games.
Describing his team's on-field communication as akin to a podcast, Rosario said the squad blends game focus with support and motivation, especially when facing rivals like the Yankees.
“It’s like we have a podcast,” Rosario told MLB.com.
“We talk about everything, about life. We’re paying attention to the game as well, but we try to bring the best energy we can for our teammates. And we play like the Hot Corner, too. I always tell the guys, ‘I know how it feels to play for the other side. When you get a big hit against the Yankees, it feels even more important.’”
Rosario’s one-year deal, which was agreed upon on 13 December, was officially announced by the club. Although the exact terms of the contract were not disclosed, a source told MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand that Rosario will earn $2.5 million for the upcoming season.
After being traded from Washington on 26 July in exchange for right-handed pitcher Clayton Beeter and outfielder Browm Martinez, the 30-year-old hit .303 (10-for-33) with three doubles, one home run, and five RBIs in 16 games for New York last season.
Rosario, a seasoned professional, made his Major League debut with the New York Mets in 2017. Over his career, he has played in 1,004 games for seven different teams, hitting .273 with 69 home runs and 389 RBIs.
Defensively, Rosario has appeared at every position on the field except for catcher and first base, even pitching one inning for the Nationals last season.
