Panthers Trevin Wallace out for season following shoulder surgery

Carolina Panthers linebacker Trevin Wallace, who started 12 games this season, will miss the remainder of the year after undergoing shoulder surgery, head coach Dave Canales announced on Friday.

Coach Canales explained that the decision was made to properly address Wallace’s injury and ensure he is fully prepared and strong for the spring.

"He was great about it," Canales said, according to the team’s website.

"It was a playable condition, but he wasn’t really able to turn the corner to play confidently the way we know he can. We reevaluated the situation and collectively decided to make sure we address it properly now, so he’ll be ready and strong for spring training."

Wallace, 22, was selected by Carolina in the third round of the 2024 NFL Draft and is in his second season with the team. He missed Weeks 1, 11, and 12 due to a lingering shoulder injury but still managed to start 12 games this year.

This season, Wallace recorded 61 tackles, including five for loss, four quarterback hits, two sacks, and four pass breakups. Over his two-year career, he has accumulated 125 tackles and three sacks in 25 games.

With one game remaining against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the NFC South, the Panthers (8-7) head into their penultimate regular-season match against the Seattle Seahawks. A win over Tampa Bay, combined with a Miami Dolphins loss, would secure Carolina its first division title since 2015.
