John Cena, a 17-time World Champion and one of WWE’s most iconic figures, is set to wrestle in his iconic 20-plus-year in-ring career later today, headlining Saturday Night’s Main Event at the Capital One Arena.

The 17-time World Champion will face Gunther, who earned the opportunity as Cena’s final opponent by winning the ‘Last Time Is Now’ tournament.

Cena’s farewell match has been the focal point of his year-long retirement tour and is considered one of the biggest moments in sports entertainment this year.

The wrestling icon recently confirmed on The Pat McAfee Show that his match with Gunther will indeed be the main event, putting an end to rumours that it might open the show.

Addressing speculation about the scheduling of his final bout, Cena clarified that it would indeed close the night.

“That is Pizzagate, homie. I was on Jimmy Kimmel and I said I’m ending the show. I said, ‘I normally go to bed early, but I’m going to have to stay up late for this one.’ We are last as of this point,” he said.

He added that his decision marked the definitive end of his in-ring career.

“This is it, I’m not coming back,” he said. “December 13th is my last match in the ring, and you don’t have to believe it, but WrestleManias will come and go, and I will not be active.”

The show will also showcase rising talent from WWE’s NXT brand, as Cena made it clear he wanted to provide a platform for the company’s future stars on his final night.

The event will stream exclusively on Peacock in the US and will be broadcast internationally.
