KARACHI: Jehanara Nabi won five individual and three team gold medals to help Pakistan Army clinch the 35th National Games' general trophy in women's swimming here on Thursday.
The department continued their dominance across several disciplines, including women's swimming, which concluded earlier today.
Pakistan Army won the discipline with utmost dominance, bagging 12 gold medals, eight more than second-placed Sindh, which could claim four. The Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) finished third with three gold medals.
Leading the way for Pakistan Army was Olympian Jehanara Nabi, who won eight gold medals, out of which five were won in individual competitions and thus won the Best Swimmer Award.
Sindh's Hareem Malik was the next-best performer in the discipline as she clinched four gold medals, out of which two came on the final day.
Hours later, Pakistan Army got their hands on yet another gold medal, courtesy of Zainab Khan, who downed Khyber Pakhtunkhwa's Mahnoor Ali in the final of the women's squash.
The gold medals added to Pakistan Army's fast-growing tally of laurels in the ongoing National Games as they lead the standings with 113 gold medals, coupled with 50 silver and 34 bronze as of December 10.
WAPDA were second with 46 gold medals, followed by Pakistan Navy in third with 24 top honours.
It is pertinent to mention that the Games will run until December 13 and will conclude with a star-studded closing ceremony at the National Bank Stadium here, which is expected to be graced by Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif.
