KARACHI: Pakistan Navy's Shahbaz Masih on Wednesday clinched the Men's Marathon title at the 35th National Games, underway across 24 venues here until December 13.
The marathon started from the Quaid-e-Azam monument here and crossed MA Jinnah Road, Mai Kolachi, Clifton, Defence and Shahrah-e-Faisal before finishing at the National Coaching Centre.
Shahbaz completed the 42.195km course in two hours, 25 minutes and 23 seconds, outrunning his opponents to clinch the gold medal.
Sher Khan of the Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) secured silver in 2:29:06, while Navy's Shoaib Akhtar bagged bronze with 2:35:17.
Surprisingly, traffic was not stopped during the National Games Marathon, resulting in problems for athletes at various locations.
Earlier in the pulsating day of action, Pakistan Army added one more to their tally of gold medals through Khadija Waheed in women's weightlifting in the 69kg category with a total lift of 169kg.
WAPDA's Saima Shehzad secured silver, while Sindh's Nazia Aslam earned bronze.
It is pertinent to mention that the Pakistan Army lead the 35th National Games medal table with 71 golds, coupled with 29 silver and 18 bronze as of December 9, followed by WAPDA with 27 and Pakistan Navy with 10.
The Games will run until December 13 and will conclude with a star-studded closing ceremony at the National Bank Stadium here, which is expected to be graced by Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif.
