KARACHI: The Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) on Monday dominated the 100m sprint at the ongoing National Games 2025 as their runners Sami Ullah and Faiqa Riaz clinched gold medals in the men's and women's categories, respectively.
In the men's discipline, Sami outran his opponents and crossed the finish line in just 10.30 seconds and bagged the gold medal for his department.
He was closely followed by Pakistan Army's Usman Ali, who won silver with a time of 10.40, while his teammate Rashid Riaz took home bronze in 10.45 seconds.
In the women's category, WAPDA's Faiqa took only 11.70 seconds and claimed the gold medal, while Higher Education Commission's (HEC) Khoula Umer Khan bagged the silver in 12.03 seconds, followed by Pakistan Army's Tameen Khan, who bagged bronze with a time of 12.10.
Sami and Faiqa added to WAPDA's tally of medals as the department clinched another gold earlier today through star athlete Arshad Nadeem in the men's Javelin throw.
Nadeem nailed a massive throw of 81.1m, which put him at the summit of the leaderboard. His attempt eventually turned out to be sufficient for him to finish at the top and bag the prestigious gold medal.
Besides him, no other participant could breach the 80-metre barrier in the competition, with the second-best throw of 70.77m made by WAPDA's Yasir Sultan, who took home the silver medal.
Pakistan Army's Abrar completed the podium as his throw of 67.68m earned him the bronze medal.
