SHARJAH: A collective bowling effort, followed by Khuzaima Tanveer's swashbuckling cameo, led Desert Vipers to an enthralling two-wicket victory over Abu Dhabi Knight Riders in the fourth match of the ILT20 here at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium on Friday.

Put into bat first, the Knight Riders notched up a formidable total of 171/6 in their 20 overs, courtesy of Alex Hales's brisk half-century.

The experienced English batter remained their top-scorer with a 37-ball 53, laced with four fours and three sixes and oversaw the Knight Riders' innings until the third delivery of the 13th over.

The Knight Riders suffered another setback in the next over when Sherfane Rutherford (three) was dismissed by Dan Lawrence, paving the way for Andre Russell to come out.

The hard-hitting all-rounder bolstered Knight Riders' total at the backend with a blistering 36-run cameo, coming off just 23 deliveries and featured three fours and two sixes.

For the Vipers, the Afghan duo of Qais Ahmad and Noor Ahmad bagged two wickets each, while Naseem Shah chipped in with one.

Set to chase 172, the Vipers knocked the winning runs for the loss of eight wickets and three balls to spare.

The Vipers got off to a dismal start to the pursuit as they had been reduced to 34/3 in 4.1 overs as Ajay Kumar and Sunil Narine dismantled their top order.

Following the early stutter, middle-order batter Dan Lawrence put together an anchoring 32-run partnership for the fourth wicket with captain Sam Curran, who walked back in the 10th over after scoring 19 off 15 deliveries.

Lawrence was then involved in a crucial 71-run partnership for the fifth wicket with Shimron Hetmyer before both perished in quick succession, bringing the total down to 138/7 in 16.4 overs.

Hetmyer remained the top-scorer for the Vipers with a 25-ball 48, while Lawrence made a cautious 35 off 32 deliveries.

With 34 required off 20 deliveries, Tanveer played a match-winning cameo of 31 from just 12 deliveries, studded with two sixes and as many fours, and steered his side to a hard-earned victory.

The victory marked Desert Vipers' second in as many matches and helped them reclaim the top spot in the ILT20 standings with four points, while Abu Dhabi Knight Riders remained third with two points in as many games.
