If you know Pakistan cricket, you would know Wasim Akram, you would know the 1992 World Cup final spell, you would know the first wicket of Alan Lamb and you would certainly know the second wicket of Chris Lewis.

This post is about that Lewis.

Lewis, a strongly built Guyan-born 6'2 all-rounder who was clean up by an Akram special that swung in miles.

We all know what happened to Lewis after the ball clipped his wicket. He looked in disbelief before walking back to the pavilion mirroring the fuming animated duck appearing on screen.

In that way, Lewis reserves a place in the mind of every Pakistani cricket fan ever. But not much is known of him since. He played his last Test in 1996 - also against Pakistan -- and his last ODI in 1998.

While most former cricketers end up making a living in the media these days, Lewis disappeared. Not many know that Lewis, on whose proverbial grave Akram built his World Cup name, fell on hard times following his cricket career. In 2008, he was caught at the airport trying to smuggle cocaine into the UK - a crime for which he was in jail for six years.

With the world locked down due to the pandemic, Lewis opened up about his dark days and how he coped up with prison life. He revealed what the first day in prison was like. The buck-tooted ex-con talked about his prison demons were scarier than any of the ones he had faced on a cricket field, including the towering Curtley Ambrose and the fearsome Allan Donald.

Here is the story straight from the horse's mouth (no pun intended).
