Two of Pakistan’s top volleyball players, Aimal Khan and Mohammad Waseem, have been unable to return to their homeland due to the suspension of flights from Thailand amid the novel coronavirus pandemic, The News reported on Thursday.

According to the publication, the duo were partaking in the Thailand Volleyball League for their respective clubs.

National skipper Aimal, who plays for Nakhon Ratchasima Mall VC, is stranded in Korat while Waseem, who plays for Thailand Volleyball League club Air Force, is stuck in Bangkok.

According to Aimal, he was not informed by the Pakistani embassy of the flights leaving for Pakistan.

"Everything here has been closed for the last 25 days because of the coronavirus issue. I am staying at a hotel. I contacted Pakistan embassy in Thailand for a flight. I heard that the other day a flight left for Pakistan but I don’t know why I was not informed by the embassy," Aimal said.

Pakistan Volleyball Federation Chairman Chaudhry Yaqoob said that the federation will contact the embassy to get the issue sorted.

"I asked Aimal why they did not return through a flight which came recently. He told me that they had informed Pakistan embassy but it is not known why it did not inform them. I will contact Pakistan embassy tomorrow and hopefully something will be done," Yaqoob said.
