Indian cricketer Mahendra Singh Dhoni's wife Sakshi Singh on Friday claimed that the news of her husband's measly Rs100,000 donation to the novel coronavirus relief fund was "fake news".

Dhoni, one of the wealthiest cricketers in the world with a reported net worth of Rs800 crore, was panned on Twitter when it emerged that he had made a donation of just Rs1 lakh.

The development came on the same day when Sachin Tendulkar made a donation of Rs5 million and Irfan and Yusuf Pathan contributed 400,000 masks to the cause.

Doni, as expected, faced the wrath of fan on social media but Sakshi said that the reported figures were off the mark.

“I request all media houses to stop carrying out false news at sensitive times like these ! Shame on You ! I wonder where responsible journalism has disappeared,” she tweeted.

However, she did not clarify the sum she claims Dhoni has donated.
